Armies on Parade! At SlayBells 2026 – Presented by EH Gaming & YGWC

£10.00

Description

Armies on Parade!

York Garrison Wargaming Club and EH Gaming are proud to present our very own Armies on Parade competition!
One of the best things about our club is its eclectic nature. Every week we see an incredible range of games, settings and scales on display: from the grim darkness of the far future, to the battlefields of 1940s Europe, to vast fantasy armies clashing with sword and sorcery.
We want to celebrate that creativity with a hobby competition that will culminate in a community vote at our annual charity fundraising event, Slaybells (19th of December).
Think of it like Games Workshop’s famous Armies on Parade… but smaller.
A 24” x 24” display board is great, but limitations breed creativity. Your challenge is to choose an force, create a display, and fit it all onto a 12” x 12” board.

Entry

For £10, you’ll receive:
• Five raffle tickets for the Slaybells charity raffle
• One 12” x 12” board (optional – see FAQ)
• A display space at Slaybells
• Eligibility to take part in the public vote

Competition Rules

• Displays must fit within a 12” x 12” footprint
• Elements above the board may overhang the footprint
• Minimum of five miniatures/models
• Multiple entries are allowed, but each must be a completely separate display
• Entries must comply with York Garrison club rules and standards of conduct
• Displays should be suitable for a family-friendly event environment
• All gaming systems and settings regularly played at the club are welcome

FAQ

How much is a ticket?
£10.

Can I enter more than once?
Absolutely. You may enter multiple times, provided each entry is a separate and distinct display piece. Entries cannot be combined into a larger display.

Are 3D-printed pieces allowed?
Yes. 3D-printed terrain, scenery, accessories and conversion parts are all welcome. For gaming miniatures, however, we ask that readily available commercial kits are used where they exist. The aim is to celebrate the hobby and the games we play, rather than replace existing ranges with direct copies or IP-infringing prints. The exception would be a system that is long retired and or only maintained by 3D prints – if you’d like to make a Battlefleet Gothic or OPR board, printing is A-OK.

Is there a minimum model count?
Yes. Every entry must contain at least five models on the board.

Can I go bigger than the 12” board?
The footprint of the display must fit within the board dimensions. If elements higher up extend beyond the edge of the board, that’s perfectly fine.

Is there a height restriction?
Anyone taller than Tom will be disqualified.
Just kidding.
There is no one taller than Tom. There is also no height restriction. The only limitation is the footprint. Please ensure your display is stable, safe and not liable to topple onto neighbouring
entries.

Are there any themes that aren’t allowed?
If it’s a game played at the club, it’s eligible. However, all entries must comply with club rules and standards. Please remember that Slaybells attracts younger players and families, so keep themes and presentation appropriate for a public event.

What about pre-painted miniatures?
No problem.

If your game uses pre-painted miniatures and you’re customising them, creating scenery, or building a display around them, they’re welcome in the competition. Just keep in mind it’s a hobby competition first and foremost.

How will the money be used?
Slaybells is a charity event. Entry fees from this competition will support the event itself, either through direct contributions to the final charity donation or through additional fundraising activities organised by the committee. A portion of the funds will also be used to provide the competition prize.
This is a great chance for us to get ahead with our fund raising efforts, enjoy a club wide event, and for you to show off.

What’s the prize?
The winner will receive an EH Gaming voucher.

The final value of the prize will depend on the number of entries received and the amount raised through the competition – we’ll communicate that as we progress through the year.
How will the winner be chosen?
Every attendee at Slaybells will receive one vote.
Yes, you may vote for your own entry.
Votes will be counted at the end of the event and the entry with the most votes wins. In the event of a tie, the result will be decided in proper wargaming fashion: a D6 roll-off between those with
the most votes.

Can I use my own 12” board?
Of course. If you already have a suitable board—such as Necromunda tiles or a custom display base—feel free to use it instead.

How will I get my board?
If you need one, you can collect one from club – we’ll coordinate over Discord should be run out or need to resupply. Alternatively if you want to source your own that works too.

What if I can’t make it to Slaybells, can I still enter?
Yes! Bring it to club before the event, we’ll put it out, and if you win we’ll hold on to the prize for you.

Where can I buy new kits to build out my awesome entry?
EH Gaming (https://www.ehgaming.com/), of course! But seriously, year in, year out EH Gaming has supported the Club’s charity fund raising efforts, and it continues to be hugely appreciated.
